After an incredible and transformative 36-year career at Hancock Lumber, sawmill veteran, Russell Coulter, retired on 12/30/21. Kevin Hancock recognized Russell at our December Board of Directors meeting at the Home Office in Casco.
“Russell has lived through and done everything there is to do at Hancock Lumber—he’s been a manager, an executive, the equivalent of a COO, a director sitting on the board, and a stockholder of the company. One word above all others that comes to mind when I think of Russell is candor. You always knew that Russell was going to tell you exactly what he thought—whether you really wanted to hear it, kind of wanted to hear it, or had zero interest in hearing it…you were going to hear it! Now, that is the greatest gift you could give your company and your coworkers. You never, ever had to worry about what Russell was thinking, because when you saw Russell, he was going to tell you exactly what he was thinking. That has been such an amazing gift to the company. His contribution to our company is historic, transformational, and highly valued! Thank you, Russell!”

From building the Pittsfield sawmill as his inaugural project in 1986 to leading major projects like installing turbines that create power at our sawmills, Russell has done everything there is to do in our sawmill division. He has left his mark on Hancock Lumber forever. Sawmill division COO, Aaron Schulte, offered some parting words for Russell:
“Russell Coulter has been both a mentor and a friend to me since I joined the company in 2013. I will be forever grateful for the knowledge, leadership, and business skills he has provided me with throughout my career at Hancock Lumber. Russell will certainly be leaving the company as a legend in the Sawmill Division as he has played such a significant role at all three facilities. There is no question that anyone that worked directly with Russell has grown because of it. And, you better have your story correct because Russell took no shame in calling anyone out if something didn’t add up! Thank you, Russell, for your years of service, honesty, integrity, and ultimately paving the path forward for the next generation.”
