Giving back is part of who Hancock Lumber is, and housing is what we help build. In 2022, we’ve made commitments to give back in an area of focus that’s close to our hearts –HOUSING. Check out a few of the ways our team is giving back this year across several organizations doing amazing things on the housing front in Maine and beyond.
Avesta Housing Silver Hearth Fund. As we all know, the affordable housing crisis has exploded in recent months given all the current market conditions. With a strong desire to help, Hancock Lumber recently contributed $25,000 to Avesta Housing’s Silver Hearth Fund. This fund supports the largest and most vulnerable group in need of good housing – seniors. Founded in 1972, Avesta Housing serves Maine + New Hampshire residents through affordable housing, services, and partnerships, providing safe, affordable, quality homes to 4,000 people each year.
Habitat for Humanity Greater Portland. On the heels of donating 100% of the building materials for a Habitat for Humanity York County Saco home in 2020-21, Hancock Lumber has now teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland to donate 100% of the building materials for an entire home annually! We’re excited to continue to strengthen our partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
passivhausMAINE to Launch Builder Trainings. Hancock Lumber has agreed to contribute funds to help launch a series of builder workshops that will take place during 2022. Proudly doing business since 1848, we’ve always been immersed in each community we serve. Deeply embedded in our culture is stewardship, and we firmly believe in giving back and leaving things in better shape than when we assumed responsibility for them. Our employees and customers raise families in these communities; our employees and customers coach and serve on boards here. We connect with organizations around the state, supporting them financially and with in-kind materials, along with the gift of time and service.
