With Hancock Lumber’s Kitchen Design Showroom teams, you can choose to collaborate with one of our 18 designers across our 8 state-of-the-art showrooms. Follow our ‘getting started’ tips below and contact us when you’re ready—no matter where you are in the process, Team Hancock is eager to help plan your kitchen renovation or new construction project!
Step 1: Planning. From finding your design inspiration to understanding how your family uses the space, planning is a critical step to a new or renovated kitchen. Whether you’re a traditionalist and clip magazine images, or you have dozens of kitchens saved to your Houzz or Pinterest accounts for inspiration, having an idea of things you like—and don’t—enables our designers to start to envision your dream space. Hancock’s website also hosts virtual showroom tours, images of our displays, and completed project features to spark your vision. Additionally, you’ll find our quick start guide online that will walk you through important items such as defining your structural parameters in the existing space and creating an inventory of appliances and fixtures.
Our designers also encourage you to think about how you and your family spend time in your current space—what do you need and want on a daily basis? Are you a baker at heart, or do you convert your space into a real-world episode of Chopped? Do your kids take over the island as remote work command stations? Or maybe it’s all about storage and where your gadgets and gizmos hide away? As the heart and soul of your home, the kitchen should reflect your lifestyle, function and flow efficiently, and bring you joy for years to come.
Step 2: Budget. There’s no doubt about it, a kitchen renovation is one of the best return on investments in home improvement projects. While a new layout, cabinets, countertops, appliances and hardware will make your space more valuable, the reality is, everyone has a budget. Having a price range in mind is helpful so our designers can take your wish list and match up materials that will work. Also, make a list of your top priorities for your space—what do you consider most important? What are things you don’t want to sacrifice?
Step 3: Connect with a Showroom + Designer. While our showrooms are open to the public, we strongly encourage calling ahead to schedule an appointment during this time. Or, if you’d prefer, schedule a zoom video conference to get started virtually. You can discuss—and show—what’s working, what’s not, and what’s on the wish list! Once you’ve partnered with a designer, the planning begins to select materials and finalize the details. Your designer will create 20/20 design plans to go back and forth before finalizing—and, we can even offer 3D color renderings of the space before ordering!
Step 4: Patience. Undergoing a kitchen renovation—especially if you’re living alongside it—is a major undertaking. Life under construction can be stressful at times, but by spending the time and energy up front, you’ll avoid many headaches in the long run.
