QUESTION: What’s more fun, building an articulating boom truck or buying one?
ANSWER: Both!!
BUILDING A BOOM TRUCK. Our goal was to spec out a truck with a wallboard crane that would be “state of the art” for power, efficiency and safety, yet user friendly to the operator. Since the truck was to be part of the Yarmouth fleet, Harland Storey and I agreed that Corey Sloat, our Yarmouth Boom Truck Operator, should have a major influence on its design and set up. Beginning almost a year ago in May, Corey tried out several cab/chassis brands. We chose a Mack from our friends at O’Connor in Westbrook. Hews Company of South Portland installed the crane and hand-built the body. The Hiab crane incorporates the latest technology for remote control operation and uses industry standards for quality and safety. The 24’ flatbed with headboard, catwalks and tag axle all had to be fabricated by Hews. Basically, there is no other boom truck exactly like this one in the world because of all the unique features and set up. Thanks Corey and the Yarmouth shipping team for pulling this all together.
